Job Summary
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of heavy equipment to support landfill operations. Serves as subject matter expert by understanding all regulatory and environmental permit requirements. Operates all heavy equipment associated with the landfill including bulldozer, track hoe, motor grader, frond end loader, compactor and rubber-tired backhoe. Trains and oversees other employee in the operation of equipment, assigns and review work, provide constructive feedback. Coordinate the maintenance needs of heavy equipment with site maintenance and off-site contractors. Assess equipment needs, schedule maintenance appointments. Performs ground maintenance, ditch maintenance, tree and heavy brush control. Responsible for notifying management of any non-compliance issues in the landfill that conflict with regulatory, permit or plant requirements from an environmental and safety perspective. Research non-compliance issues to determine cause and proper guidelines for compliance, develop sound business solutions and takes appropriate actions to successfully resolve issues.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:
- 2+ years of directly related experience in heavy equipment operations or related field
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills in person, by phone and in writing; must be able to demonstrate ability to influence, coach, mentor and train others;
- Must be able to work independently and as a team member;
- Ability to collaborate with plant maintenance and outside contractors to resolve maintenance issues
- Must be able to manage contracts and contractors; must have strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and scheduling skills; must have time management and organization skills;
- Must have strong computer skills in Microsoft Office,
- Must have technical knowledge and demonstrated skills to do detailed inspections; must be able to read and interpret complex regulations and assess impact to company operations,
- Must have strong knowledge and skills of maintenance operations;
- Must be able to demonstrate ability to assess situations and develop sound business solutions to successfully resolve issues quickly, safely and effectively.

Requires prolonged use of a computer keyboard and scanner. Exposure to high-voltage electricity. May require working unscheduled overtime and weekends and/or holidays to complete projects or meet deadlines. May require occasional travel and overnight stays. May be exposed to chemicals, including but not limited to, flammable gases and liquids, toxins, pesticides, corrosives and petroleum products. Expected Hiring Base Salary Range:
$65500 - $85000
The expected hiring base salary range is the range we anticipate hiring within for this position. The actual salary offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and work location.
