Job Summary

McMeekin Steam Operations located at 6055 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC has an opening for an Assistant Plant Operator.

 

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for assisting in the continuous operation of plant equipment by regularly monitoring, maintaining and checking plant equipment such as motors, pumps, fans, compressors, and valves.  This position also assists supervisor by isolating and tagging equipment for maintenance and preparing equipment for operation.

 

The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined below.

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below.

 

Pay for this position ranges from $27.27 to $42.01 per hour based on experience.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

 

  • At least 1 year of related work experience in operating, monitoring and inspecting various mechanical equipment is required including starting, stopping, isolating, and preparing equipment for maintenance or operation, and troubleshooting complex operating systems and controls.
  • Must have a High School diploma from an accredited high school from the Department of Education or GED
  • A valid drivers’ license

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Must be able to evaluate operations and determine when corrective orders should be written, and capable of making decisions during emergency situations.
  • Must be able to work day or night rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, standing for prolonged periods of time, working outside during inclement weather if necessary, and working in confined spaces.
  • Must also be in good physical condition to perform work duties safely such as heavy lifting and climbing.
  • Must be available for scheduled and unscheduled overtime. 
  • Incumbents will also be required to occasionally wear a respirator and maintain annual respirator requalification.

Education Requirements

Completion of high school or equivalent (i.e., GED) is required.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
