Job Summary

This position located in Columbia, SC will assist in reviewing applications and documents requesting permission for shoreline activities.  Position will also assist in ensuring compliance with current regulations of the Shoreline Management Plan by inspections and site visits with the applicant prior to construction of any shoreline requests, physically marking shoreline sites, and collecting longitude and latitude data which may involve walking a shoreline or maneuvering on the water.  Shoreline requests could range from construction or repair of a boat ramp, pier, rip-rap, retaining wall, excavation or filling operation. 

This position will assist in implementing and processing shoreline requests through the Lake Management permitting process, monitor activity along the shoreline to control any unauthorized encroachments below the 360 foot contour and bring any unauthorized construction into compliance with Lake Management Program requirements.  This position will interact with the public and support decisions at the time of meeting with the public on Shoreline Management issues.  This position will also interact with regulatory agencies on matters related to Lake Management, assist with interpretation and enforcing regulatory requirements as part of the overall licensing for all hydros, and determine whether requests meet criteria based on regulatory requirements. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:

Associate Lake Management Representative:  

  • 0-2 years of experience in lake management or related experience and basic knowledge GIS experience.  
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of survey and engineering and property management and the ability to identify county property maps, plats and property descriptions.  
  • Basic knowledge in ArcMap GIS software is highly desirable.
  • Must have knowledge and ability to operate a power boat and to launch and retrieve boats and be familiar with current boating regulations.
  • Must be in good physical condition and must be able to work outdoors in various conditions including, but not limited to, working in a boat for long hours in heat, cold and rough water conditions, some heavy lifting, and walking for long periods of time in a forest environment to mark and identify company property lines and shoreline management monitoring requirements. 

Lake Management Representative:

Must have all of the qualifications listed above plus:

  • 2+ years experience with lake management or related experience and 2 years basic knowledge GIS experience.  

 

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Bachelor

Preferred disciplines: Business, Real Estate

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred disciplines(s) listed above.

Expected Hiring Base Salary 

Associate Lake Management Representative- $52,800- $68,600

Lake Management Representative- $65,500- $85,000

 

The expected hiring base salary range is the range we anticipate hiring within for this position. The actual salary offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and work location. This is not intended to represent the full salary range for the position or limit future compensation growth.
