Telecommunications Technician - West Va

Job Summary

In your role as a Telecommunications Technician, you will apply your basic knowledge of all areas of telecommunications. This role will be to provide installation and maintenance support for Dominion Energy’s telecommunications infrastructure including microwave radio systems, transport routers, installation of routers & switches along with coordination with multiple groups for configuration and troubleshooting in the state of West Virginia and Western PA. This job will at times include travel to Solar locations throughout the USA for installations and troubleshooting. Company vehicle provided.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Required: 3-4+ years of telecommunications experience with an associate's degree or equivalency.

Qualified candidates should have experience in microwave radio systems, transport routers, and DC power along with network and telecommunications applications.  The equipment is located in the Company’s West Virginia and Western PA service territory.Technical: Must have a basic knowledge of all areas of telecommunications and possess the ability to work on telecommunications systems and equipment. Must be able to analyze trouble reports and perform maintenance of telecommunications equipment and possess a strong aptitude for technical understanding.

Work ethic: Demonstrates the ability to perform the assigned duties within the realm of responsibility. Must possess skills to interface with various departments, internal and external customer groups to perform necessary telecommunications work.

Customer Service: Possesses an awareness of customer requirements with emphasis on major initiatives. Must be able to set priorities and demonstrate timely and effective response to customer and team member needs.

Methodology: Must have an understanding of methods and processes of the business units within the realm of responsibility. Able to respond effectively to diverse demands. Ability to respond effectively and timely to the needs and requirements of the business units.

Availability: Must provide personal availability and maintain rotation on call status.

Physical Ability: Must be able to lift 45 pounds. Must be able to see color and distinguish between colors.

Skilled in the installation of telecommunications equipment including running power leads, installing fiber fuse panels, cable management, fiber management, cable terminations and grounding.

Minimal out-of-state travel for solar site support required

Skilled in the support, installation and testing of microwave radio systems, elliptical waveguide, microwave antennas, and the necessary grounding for each component.

Knowledge of grounding practices for communication buildings and antenna support structures.

Basic understanding of components that make up a tower lighting system.

Working knowledge of 48v DC power systems is required.

Detailed knowledge and hands on experience with channel banks/multiplexers.

Knowledge in Avaya PBX systems

Knowledge and understanding of telephone cable and Fiber Optic cable installation and troubleshooting including copper cable termination on 66M and 110 blocks

Ability to work with 48V DC/135V DC

Ability to troubleshoot digital and analog telecommunications circuits including DS0, DS1, DS3 and PRI facilities including the use of Transmission Test sets.

Experience installing data network equipment; routers/switches

Small project leadership skills a plus

Basic troubleshooting of Generators

Basic troubleshooting of A/C units

Must be safety conscious and detailed oriented

Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or more rounds to one full year of qualifications.

• Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined.
 

Education Requirements

Education Level: Associate Degree in Electronics or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

High school graduate. HS diploma/GED.
