Job Summary

Performs various chemical analyses in support of operations. Performs cycle water, coal, ash, carryover, fuel, environmental water, and lube oil analyses. Calibrates benchtop and inline chemistry instrumentation. Supports unit startup by ensuring chemistry levels are within acceptable ranges, and recommending needed adjustments. Performs various environmental tests to ensure plant operations are within regulatory guidelines. Maintains laboratory chemical inventory. Monitors operations of the cooling tower and other water treatment systems, such as the potable and waste water treatment facilities (Bath County Power Station) to ensure chemical levels are within regulatory guidelines. Prepares and verifies accuracy of reports for submittal to regulatory agencies. Maintains laboratory data and logs. Conducts chemical and physical lab or field tests.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

 

Chemistry Technician: 2+ years directly related experience.

  • Basic knowledge of analytical chemistry and laboratory concepts and techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications.
  • Ability to analyze and organize information.

 

Sr Chemistry Technician:  5+ years directly related experience.

  • Designation will be approved by management, and will be based upon sustained, high level of performance, and the needs of the department.
  • Broad knowledge and application of principles, practices, and procedures to carry out all aspects of the job and handle the most complex work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of chemistry instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated instructional traits.
  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of instruments used in the lab.
  • Knowledge at a level that far exceeds a chemistry technician. -Possession and utilization of leadership traits.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Associate

Preferred Discipline(s):  Biology, Chemistry

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Bath County Power Station only: Waste Water (Cass IV) License. Potable Water License.
