We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity. 

At this time, Dominion Energy cannot transfer or sponsor a work visa or employment authorization for this position.

Job Summary

Specific responsibilities include:
 

  • Coordinates projects, consults and takes other actions to ensure company operations are in compliance with federal and state fisheries regulations and areas of concern.  
  • Coordinates and provides biological and ecological support for collection, analysis, and reporting of scientific data across all parts of the company.  
  • Promotes corporate environmental and sustainability policies by educating and assisting employees to seek innovative ways to ensure operational environmental compliance.
  • Coordinates investigations, surveys, and planning for evaluation of company-related activities that may impact the environment.  
  • Coordinates environmental permitting activities for company operations and facilities with respect to biological, ecological and related water quality issues.
  • Coordinates meetings with government regulatory agencies, on required biological, ecological and water quality activities.  
  • Designs and implements scientific studies and monitoring plans  
  • Develops and conducts environmental compliance training
  • Inspects and provides advice on operations, construction, procedures, records, and training.
  • Provides regulatory interpretations for new and existing environmental regulations.
  • Coordinates and develops compliance plans for implementing regulatory requirements and changes.
  • Uses electronic databases to analyze and monitor company compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Leads field studies to monitor the effects of Dominion facilities on aquatic ecosystems and responsible for team safety in adverse weather and hazardous working conditions.  
  • Assimilates and analyzes data, conducts reviews of related research, and compiles information into scientifically defensible technical reports.  

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Fisheries:  Advanced knowledge of freshwater fish and fisheries.
 

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include:
 

  1. 2-3 years of relevant experience
  2. Advanced knowledge of ecological principles, study design and sampling methodology
  3. Ability to work outdoors for prolonged periods in various conditions
  4. Ability to analyze and manage large complex data sets
  5. Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making in planning, organizing and conducting work assignments
  6. Ability to effectively utilizes the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches to problems encountered in work assignments
  7. Ability to identify and eliminate unnecessary work and non-value added activities
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Statistical software applications
  9. Familiarity with industry safety policies and practices
  10. Knowledge of company operations and related ecological impacts
  11. Ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions
  12. May be required to work overtime and conduct sampling at night
  13. Some overnight travel is required
  14. Hybrid (Office/Remote) work schedule available

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education.
Masters- Preferred

Disciplines Preferred: Fishery Science, Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Boat operator's license preferred. A valid state driver's license is required.

Working Conditions

Office Work Environment 76 -100%
Travel Up to 25%

Other Working Conditions

May be required to work in a field environment and exposed to extreme temperature and weather 25 to 50%.
 

Will require frequent bending, climbing, twisting, balancing and reaching.  Requires standing and/or walking for long periods of time. Requires frequent exposure to heights.  Must be able to respond to emergency conditions which may include: changing flat tires, chaining up vehicle, operating jack, performing minor maintenance, and operating a two-way radio.  May be required to work on-call, overtime, rotating shifts, overtime weekends and holidays.
