Job Summary

Dominion Energy’s Elizabeth River CT in Chesapeake, VA and Darbytown CT in Richmond, VA seek two highly motivated Instrument Technicians II or III.

There are two positions available, and each will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities.


Under general supervision, the technician performs a wide range of tasks including inspection, testing, servicing, repair, calibration, and installation of various control instruments such as flow meters, pressure transmitters and gauges, thermometers, and regulators. The role involves identifying causes of instrument malfunctions, reporting findings, and replacing components as needed. Technicians use portable pressure gauges, manometers, and similar test equipment, perform preventive maintenance, test flue gas, read meters, and record data. They also tune single loop controls and maintain instrumentation drawings.


At the higher level, technicians work on more complex systems and equipment, perform engineering functions for control loop modifications, and maintain configuration documentation. They may lead control system upgrade projects and provide training and guidance to less experienced technicians.
Inspect, test, service, repair, configure, calibrate, and install indicating, recording, and automatic control instruments such as flow meters, pressure transmitters and gauges, thermometers, regulators, systems, and similar components in a power station. Locate cause of defective performance of instruments, report findings to supervisor, and replace component parts as required. Use portable pressure gauges, manometer, and other similar test equipment. Perform preventive maintenance. Test flue gas, read meters, and record data as required. This level works on complex and detailed systems and equipment. Perform required engineering functions for control loop modifications. Maintain drawings and configuration documentation as related to instrumentation. Act as project leader for control system upgrades and/or modifications. May train and guide less experienced Instrument Technicians


Will proficiently perform assignments having the knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience needed to carry out all aspects of the job; exercise independent judgment and decision-making in planning; organize and conduct work assignments; may receive instructions and guidance on unusual or complex problems and knows when to get others involved; effectively utilizes the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches to problems encountered in work assignments; and identifies and eliminates unnecessary work and non-value added activities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Instrument Technician II:  3 years of related experience in instrumentation and control
Instrument Technician III: 5 years of related experience in instrumentation and control

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Both Levels

•    Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot various components
•    Ability to utilize configuration drawings
•    Valid driver’s license
•    Mastery of AC and DC instrumentation theory and practical applications
•    Ability to work on advanced control systems, with strong experience in diagnosing and resolving complex issues in instrumentation and control loops
•    Expertise in interpreting and creating complex schematics, instrumentation diagrams, and detailed control system designs
•    High-level proficiency in calibrating, installing, and optimizing advanced instrumentation systems for peak performance
•    Helps maintain daily operations logbooks by documenting tasks, maintenance activities, and repairs completed during shifts.


Preferences (If you meet any of these preferences, be sure to include them in your resume):
•    Fossil power station instrumentation and controls experience;
•    Experience maintaining and troubleshooting Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS)
•    Start-up/operational support experience for fossil power plants;
•    Experience with General Electric MARK 6e;
•    Experience with Computers including software installations and patch management functions;

•    Control system upgrade experience;
•    PLC experience (to include ladder logic programming)
•    Must have availability and flexibility to work OT as needed, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

•   Experience with Emerson-Ovation Platfom

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Associate
