Job Summary
Responsible for leading all onsite construction, commissioning, startup, and turnover activities in the Project Construction Thermal Group. This group specifically focuses on building new Gas Turbine (both Simple-Cycle and Combined Cycle) generating assets from mobilization through commercial operation. This position will initially work on the Urquhart CT7 Project located at the existing Urquhart Station in Aiken County, SC.
Leads the integration of construction and commissioning activities across all project disciplines, including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls, and startup operations. Establishes and maintains a strong field execution culture focused on safety excellence, construction productivity, quality assurance, system completion, and successful plant startup.
Responsible for developing and executing site construction and commissioning strategies, work plans, staffing plans, turnover processes, and readiness reviews. Directs onsite contractor performance, manages field issue resolution, and drives completion of all construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, performance testing, and commercial operation milestones.
Provides regular executive-level updates regarding construction progress, commissioning readiness, startup risks, contractor performance, system turnover status, and key schedule milestones. Identifies and mitigates risks that could impact safety, schedule, budget, quality, or operational startup objectives.
This position is expected to manage a team of site construction managers, commissioning managers, startup personnel, contractors, and matrixed project resources. Coordinates closely with Engineering, Operations, Environmental, Safety, Supply Chain, and Project Controls organizations to ensure seamless project execution and successful transition of the facility to Operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead all onsite construction, commissioning, startup, and turnover activities for the Urquhart Project.
- Establish and maintain an uncompromising safey culture across all field activities.
- Manage EPC contractor and subcontractor execution, productivity, quality, and performance.
- Oversee construction sequencing, system turnover, commissioning, and startup planning.
- Direct commissioning and startup activities to achieve safe and reliable system operation.
- Lead readiness reviews, operational acceptance testing, performance testing, and commercial operation activities.
- Coordinate project interfaces between construction, engineering, operations, and maintenance organizations.
- Monitor and forecast site safety, schedule, cost, quality, and commissioning performance.
- Drive resolution of field issues, design conflicts, startup challenges, and schedule recovery plans.
- Provide executive management with regular site progress reports, risk assessments, and recovery recommendations.
- Ensure successful turnover of completed systems and final handoff to Operations.
This role requires extensive onsite presence and hands-on leadership throughout construction, commissioning, startup, and commercial operation, with primary accountability for delivering a safe, reliable, and operationally ready facility.

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:
Demonstrated Leadership Skills
- 8-10+ years of demonstrated knowledge and experience with large engineering, procurement, and construction contracts and processes.
- Strong technical, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
- Skilled in use of computer including Microsoft applications, scheduling programs, spreadsheets, databases, and project management applications.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects through the implementation phase to closure.
- Ability to utlize pctract requirements and conditions. Ability to achieve results by influencing others.
- Ability to compile, interpret and present data to senior management.
- Should have progressive experience in project management and/or project engineering
- This experience should encompass conceptual project scoping through final project scope, cost, and schedule development.
- Considerable work experience with engineering, procurement and construction firms.

Working conditions will include a combination of office and field work. Field work will be located at a major construction site and include all potential hazards associated with a construction environment. Employee could be expected to spend up to 25% of their time in the field monitoring construction activities.

Expected Hiring Base Salary Range:
$131800 - $171200
The expected hiring base salary range is the range we anticipate hiring within for this position. The actual salary offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and work location.
