The ERC Department provides real time electric dispatch guidance, operating cost data, fuel management, and unit commitment planning for Power Generation, Power Marketing, Electric System Control, and Fuel Procurement with an emphasis on inter-departmental coordination through electronic and inter-personal communications. This position is a critical part of the planning team responsibilities for the cost-effective dispatch of DESC’s generation facilities. Candidates must have a working knowledge of the FERC Standards of Conduct and Dominion Energy Code of Conduct (COC) as the communications requirements of this job include daily contact with internal personnel of many COC classifications.

The primary responsibility of this position is to develop and publish a daily unit commitment plan that balance self-generated and purchased energy to serve DESC retail load and wholesale obligations based on engineering parameters, cost factors, and system needs. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for the seamless and timely flow of data into this planning team and sending plans out to Electric and Gas Transmission, Power Marketing, Natural Gas Procurement and Electric Power Generation.  These functional skills should combine with technical judgment, business acumen, and personal responsibility to make the critical decisions needed to maintain the cost-effective and reliable operation of DESC resources operating within the Bulk Electric System.  Decision-making is a critical skill in this position that directly and immediately impacts customers’ costs and influences system reliability. A high level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required. The successful candidate will work together with the ERC team of system planners to organize a variety of complicated input data, manage plant fuel supply, forecast load, optimize system resources, allocate off-system sales cost, and coordinate closely with other DESC departments.
