We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

Dominion Energy South Carolina has a Engineering Technical Consultant vacancy in Cayce, SC.  This position serves as technical subject matter expert on steam turbine operations and responsible for project management activities to include but not limited to:

 

  • Manages outage and overhaul projects of steam turbines/generators and associated equipment (turbine valves, boiler feed pump turbines, electro- hydraulic control and lube oil systems) from design to implementation to testing to completion; identifies key barriers and issues, researches and evaluates more complex issues and develops sound business solutions to achieve desired results.
  •  Manages and conducts on-site inspections of work performed to ensure work quality and safety are adhered to; identifies key barriers and troubleshoots more complex issues to develop sound business solutions to successfully resolve issues; assesses situation and determines when escalated issues should be elevated to management for resolution.
  • Assesses skills of turbine/generator personnel and develops and presents training and development opportunities to ensure a highly skilled workforce is available to provide high quality performance.
  • Provides technical and field support to plants during major outages and overhauls to ensure work is performed according to policy, procedures and consistent standards; identifies and evaluates key barriers and issues to develop sound business solutions to achieve desired results.
  •  Audits, inspects and documents activities for compliance to steam turbine/generator program and procedures including Quality assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) needs and takes appropriate action to successfully resolve compliance issues.
  • Responsible for oversight of testing, repairs, etc. to Steam Turbine/Generators during outages, overhauls, and routine maintenance activities to ensure a high level of quality work is performed, and takes appropriate action to identify, troubleshoot, and successfully resolve issues and concerns. Responsible for pre-outage planning activities including but not limited to: researching prior outages activities, reports, and milestones; develops list of inspections and activities to be completed; develops list of lessons learned from current and prior projects for inclusion in future projects; development of project plan and testing methods; identifies and orders parts needed during outages; and collaborates with engineering and plant personnel to ensure project plan meets outage/overhaul objectives and needs.
  • Develops and maintains a central repository of all Steam Turbine/Generator documentation within the Power Generation fleet.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

 

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

 

  • 7-8+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline.
  •  In-depth and comprehensive knowledge of engineering principals, theories and practices. In-depth knowledge of industry codes, government regulations and company policies and practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of design and operation of complex systems and equipment.
  •  Ability to apply expert knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve complex and broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline.
  • Ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadlydefined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline.
  • Strong oral, written and graphical communication skills including technical writing; ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature.
  • Ability to conduct standard tests, measurements and experiments.
  •  Ability to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes.
  • Equally effective working independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent organization and project management skills and evaluation techniques.
  • Excellent personal computer skills including knowledge of applicable software programs.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Proven decision making skills.
  •  Ability to address issues applying analytical and abstract thinking.
  • Ability to resolve problems and process information quickly.

Education Requirements

Degree equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

 

Bachelor 

 

In order to be a titled Engineering Technical Specialist, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
  • 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering or other technical related discipline; or
  • 4-year non-technical degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree
