Job Summary
Dominion Energy is seeking an experienced, highly motivated senior communications specialist or communications specialist to join its media relations team. The position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
Based in Cayce, South Carolina, this hybrid position works in a collaborative and integrated style with primary responsibilities to include media relations, issues management, emergency/crisis communications and strategic communications regarding company-related issues, operations, projects and events. Serving as an official spokesperson for the company, the successful candidate must quickly and continuously learn about the energy industry and Dominion Energy’s business operations.
There is one position available and it will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Responsibilities of the position include the following:
- Serve as a company spokesperson and coordinate media relations activities by collaborating with appropriate subject matter experts and leadership, responding to day-to-day media inquiries, participating in on-camera and other media interviews, writing news releases and other work products, pitching stories for media coverage, cultivating relationships with members of the media and other associated activities.
- Participate in after-hours media duty on a rotating basis and storm duty during severe weather events such as hurricanes and winter storms.
- Help develop and execute communications initiatives to provide timely and accurate information to customers and other stakeholders while supporting business objectives and enhancing the company’s reputation.
- Understand and stay abreast of external and internal issues and events that impact company operations.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Communications Specialist
- Minimum of two years of public relations and/or media communications experience is required. A master's degree will count as one year of experience. A partial year of six months or more will be rounded up to one year.
Senior Communications Specialist
- Minimum of five years of public relations and/or media communications experience is requiredA master's degree will count as one year of experience. A partial year of six months or more will be rounded up to one year.
Additional requirements include:
- Strong knowledge of public relations, news media, news writing – including proficiency with AP style – as well as public relations and news judgment concepts, applications, and theories.
- Composure under stress, a healthy sense of urgency, and the ability to process and translate complex issues/topics into understandable terms, often under tight deadlines and considerable scrutiny.
- Excellent communications skills, including public speaking and writing, for a diverse mix of communication channels and audiences.
- Ability to work well on a team and manage multiple projects effectively.
- On-camera experience as an official spokesperson for a company, agency or organization is highly preferred.
- Ability to develop and manage a network of media relationships and other communications contacts.
- Experience using social media as an integral part of a business communication strategy.
- Project management experience preferred.
- Work outside of core hours as needed, which could include some evenings, weekends and holidays for special events, storms as well as other issues and emergencies.

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor
