Job Summary
The position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates' education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities . Dominion Energy South Carolina is currently seeking a Associate Design Drafter, Design Drafter, Senior Design Drafter for the Substation Standards Engineering Department (Transmission Operations Center – Cayce, SC). The Substation Standards Engineering Department is comprised of engineers, technicians, and drafting personnel engaged in the engineering and design of electric substations.
This position produces drawings and data that clearly and accurately depict the physical electrical transmission and electrical distribution substation infrastructure, as well as the engineering parameters that support their design. This position is responsible for providing drafting services that support engineering and design requirements. Drafting services include preparation of detailed system, equipment or component drawings; as-built drawings; electronic drawing and document control; and drawing revisions. This position requires use of manual and electronic drafting tools. Drafting personnel must be proficient with a computer and associated software, such as AutoCAD, Windows, and electronic drawing management systems such as ADEPT.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Associate Design Drafter: 0-2 years of directly related experience.
- Basic knowledge of drafting principles, interpreting construction estimates, personal computer and computer aided design, math and electrical applications.
- Skills: manual technical drawing and computer assisted drawing, verbal and written communication, use of drafting tools.
- Abilities: analytical thinking, process information quickly.
Design Drafter: 2-3+ years of directly related experience.
- Basic knowledge of drafting principles.
- Full knowledge of computer skills for CAD system.
- Full knowledge of math and mechanical, electrical or civil drawings.
- Basic knowledge of company mapping methods.
- Skills: manual technical drawing and computer assisted drawing, verbal and written communication, graphics reproduction equipment.
- Abilities: analytical and abstract thinking, process information quickly.
Senior Designer Drafter: 5+ years of significant relevant experience in drafting and/or graphics.
- Full knowledge of drafting principles.
- Full knowledge of computer aided drafting.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical or civil principles.
- Skills: reproduction equipment, mechanical drawing, computer graphics, verbal and written communication.
- Abilities: analytical and abstract thinking, problem solving, process information quickly.
Additional Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience with AutoCAD (2023 or newer version preferred).
- The ability to produce drawings from designer notes and sketches.
- Structural and/or Electrical Technician background.
Education Requirements
Required degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree):
High School Diploma or GED
Preferred: An Associate degree in a technical field with an emphasis on computer aided design applications such as AutoCAD
