Job Summary

Dominion Energy seeks a Power Supply Reliability Specialist I, Power Supply Reliability Specialist II or Power Supply Reliability Specialist III to join the Transmission Operation Planning team at the Dominion Energy Transmission Control Room in Cayce, South Carolina. This position requires working a rotating 12-hour shift. There are multiple positions available which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates' education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.  

 

Power Supply Reliability Specialist I

This is a trainee position.


As a trainee, completion of NERC Certification at the highest level (currently Reliability Coordinator) is required.  This position is responsible for developing an understanding of contingency analysis and reliability analysis of the transmission system, as well as developing an understanding of the responsibility and authority to implement real time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System.  Once NERC Certified, this position may fulfill duties of a Power Supply Reliability Specialist II on a temporary basis to finalize training. 

 

Power Supply Reliability Specialist II


Responsible for contingency analysis and reliability analysis of the transmission system. This position has the responsibility and authority to implement real-time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System. Employees responsible for the operation and maintenance of generation and transmission equipment are subject to this authority. This position requires NERC Certification at the highest level (current Reliability Coordinator). 


Power Supply Reliability Specialist III


Responsible for contingency analysis and reliability analysis of transmission system. This position has the responsibility and authority to implement real-time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System.  Employees responsible for the operation and maintenance of generation and transmission equipment are subject to this authority. This position is responsible for complying with the NERC Certification at the highest level (currently Reliability Operator). Has a leadership role on the Desk by 1) conducting training of Reliability Specialist on scenarios and solutions to ensure all staff are properly trained and prepared to implement solutions, 2) reviewing, developing, and updating procedures and job aids to mitigate reliability issues, and 3) training, mentoring, and coaching other Reliability Specialist on how to monitor and protect the reliability of the Bulk Electric System. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):
 

Power Supply Reliability Specialist I

  • 0-2+ years of a combination of electric utility operations experience and compliance related experience in a regulated environment. 
  • Must be able to pass the NERC exam.
     

Power Supply Reliability Specialist II

  • 3+ years of a combination of electric utility operations experience and compliance related experience in a regulated environment.  
  • Must be NERC Certified at the Reliability Coordinator level.

Power Supply Reliability Specialist III

  • 5+ years combination of electric utility operation experience and control room related experience.
  • Must be able to demonstrate sill and abilities commensurate the Power Supply Reliability Specialist III job description. 
     

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for all three levels:

  • Must be able to work independently and a team member and be flexible in a changing environment.
  • Must possess the ability to work well with others and have good verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must have basic computer knowledge and skills including Microsoft Office Suite and various tools utilized to conduct research and analysis.
  • Must have good knowledge of sound engineering principles. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to perform basic modeling/studies.
  • Must have superior analytical, critical thinking, mathematical, and problem solving skills.
  • This position will perform the specific task required to provide the ability functions for DESC and other areas as required by the North America Electric Reliability Corporation. Such task include studying the Bulk Electric System in real time and on a future basis (generally day ahead to two weeks ahead) to ensure reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System. 

Education Requirements

​​​​​​Required Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree): BA/BS in related discipline

In lieu of BA/BS may substitute Associate degree and 2+ years related experience or high school and 4+ years of directly related experiences that demonstrates knowledge of relevant fundamental theories, principles and concepts.

 

Preferred

  • BS in Engineering from and ABET accredited Engineering Program
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience indirectly related field.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Power Supply Reliability Specialist I

Ability to become NERC Certified at the Reliability Coordinator level and trained to operate the Reliability Desk within 6 months of hire.

Power Supply Reliability Specialist II

NERC Certified at the Reliability Coordinator level and trained to operate the Reliability Desk within 3 months of hire. 

Power Supply Reliability Specialist III

NERC Certified at the Reliability Coordinator level and trained to operate the Reliability Desk within 3 months of hire.
