Power Generation Operations - Engineer I

Job Summary

Urquhart Station is looking for an entry level mechanical engineer to support the daily operational needs of our power plant generating station.  Urquhart Station produces electrical power by converting natural gas and fuel oil energy into electricity.  This position will directly report to the 2nd Level Operations Supervisor at of the plant. 

Some plant functions expected to be performed include performance testing and calculations for equipment and the plant processes.  Participate in trouble shooting operating processes.  Overseeing major maintenance of plant equipment.   Performing all the necessary activities associated with the installation of assigned plant capital projects.  Specific activities include determining cost-effective solutions, providing design, generating a specification, cost estimating, scheduling, conducting bid meetings, ensuring quality control, safety, environmental, cash flows, monthly updates, testing, commissioning, document control, and training.  Developing a complete understanding all the plant’s daily operational processes and support operating various plant equipment as needed. 

Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences required for entry into this job include the following:

 

0-2+ years of engineering experience is required (Mechanical Engineering discipline preferred but not required);

Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals and theory;

Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);

Effective decision making skills;

Computer skills and application of software programs;

Analytical and abstract thinking skills;

Problem solving skills;

Ability to learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems;

Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices;

Ability to develop effective planning, project and organization skills;

Ability to develop project management skills and to handle multiple tasks;Ability to work within a team environment. 

Education Requirements

Education Level Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering)


REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: 
 
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: 
 
Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or 


Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or 

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a postgraduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or 


Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or 


Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
