Job Summary

Gas Operations is seeking a Construction Inspector to fill a vacancy in Bluffton, SC. This position is responsible for inspecting routine construction work as directed, performing and inspecting minor construction projects, completing daily reports and as-builts on minor projects, and advising contractors and company personnel as needed. Will be responsible for performing Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) inspection oversight on projects, including plastic and steel jobs, mains and/or services dealing with both internal and external customers. All completion reports and as-builts must be approved. Work is assigned with general instruction and supervision. Required to be available for emergency response.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

Applicants must have strong customer service and excellent interpersonal skills to interact efficiently with internal and external customers. Additionally, applicants should possess good problem-solving skills and the ability to function effectively in a team environment. Must possess knowledge and application of company safety and Operating & Maintenance procedures, knowledge of construction guidelines such as OSHA and DOT, the ability to recognize safety deficiencies, and the ability to recommend field changes as needed. Intermediate PC skills to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products; frequently drives vehicle for company business so must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving history.

 

Construction Inspector I: Must have a high school diploma from a high school accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or one of the entities recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED and four (4) yrs. related technical experience, OR Two (2) yr. non-technical degree with at least two (2) yrs. related technical experience; OR Two (2) yr. technical degree and 0 to 2 yrs. related technical experience Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

 

Construction Inspector II: Must have a high school diploma from a high school accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or one of the entities recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED and four years as a Construction Inspector I or eight (8) yrs. related technical experience; OR Two (2) yr. non-technical degree with at least four (4) years as a Construction Inspector I or six (6) yrs. related technical experience; OR Two (2) yr. technical degree at least four (4) years as a Construction Inspector I or four (4) yrs. related technical experience Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

 

 Construction Inspector III: • Must have a high school diploma from a high school accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or one of the entities recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED and four years as a Construction Inspector II or twelve (12) yrs. related technical experience; OR • Two (2) yr. non-technical degree with at least four (4) years as a Construction Inspector II or ten (10) yrs. related technical experience; OR • Two (2) yr. technical degree at least four (4) years as a Construction Inspector II or eight (8) yrs. related technical experience • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Other Working Conditions

1-Requires prolonged use of a computer keyboard and scanner.

2-Exposure to high-voltage electricity.

3-May require working unscheduled overtime and weekends and/or holidays to complete projects or meet deadlines.

4-May require occasional travel and overnight stays.

5-May be exposed to chemicals, including but not limited to, flammable gases and liquids, toxins, pesticides, corrosives and petroleum products. (For more specific chemical information, consult chemical inventories and materials safety data sheets.)

 6-Must work in a hazardous environment.
