Job Summary

This senior level role independently coordinates with internal and external customers for the design and installation of electric distribution facilities including complex residential, residential subdivision, complex commercial, industrial, governmental reliability, and planning projects. Secures site plans, load letters and other relevant information from customer and determines customer requirements. Responsible for communicating those requirements to the customer as well as establishing clear expectations of company and customer. Facilitates or provides determination of material, time and cost estimates for the construction, maintenance and relocation of electric distribution facilities. Creates internal project costs for program budgetary input and planning. Performs calculations and designs complex electric distribution facilities based on analysis of customer load requirements, company engineering standards and existing facilities. Inspects project sites, organizes site/office meetings, determines metering requirements, and prepares complex detailed drawings utilizing ArcFM, AutoCAD, or other tools as appropriate. Prepares, negotiates and secures right of way permits, environmental permits, easement agreements, highway/railroad permits, underground electric service agreements, vault agreements, etc. Utilizes Project Management skills to independently maintain and organize a high volume of work assignments. Utilizes work management software to manage work queue. Prepares complex cost estimates based on design of new construction or modification of existing facilities. Coordinates installation/relocation of other utilities (i.e. cable television, telephone, fiber, etc.).  Prepares billing authorities, revenue calculations, facilities charges, etc. Determines tree-trimming requirements and coordinates with stakeholders. Manages material reservations. Interprets and communicates company policy and procedures, electric service requirements and project schedule to customers. Reconciles construction as-builts to ensure mapping accuracy in GIS.  Demonstrates leadership skills through training, mentoring and supporting less experienced personnel as well as interacting with other groups. Interprets company policies and procedures. During outage events, utilizes electronic damage assessment tools to provide data for restoration analysis and customer communication. Conducts field assessment of electrical infrastructure for resource allocation and material needs and facilitates logistics for storm response.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

5+ years directly related experience.

Successful completion of the Customer Projects Designer Development Program (internal) or comparable development program (external) (preferred). 

Demonstrates leadership skills through training, mentoring and supporting less experienced personnel as well as appropriately interacting with other groups. Successful completion of the Customer Projects Designer Development Program or previous external experience demonstrating knowledge of fundamental overhead and commercial design. Strong knowledge of distribution design, electricity, company policies and procedures and mainframe and personal computer. Skills: good written, verbal and interpersonal communication; math and technical aptitude. Time management and organization; project management; analytical. Abilities: adaptable to change, demonstrate initiative, effectively interact with customers and team members; detail oriented. Physical attributes required to perform essential functions of the job: walking, climbing, stooping, bending and prolonged standing.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Associates

This job requires "recommended" test results from Modern Hire Customer Projects Designer Virtual Job Tryout administered online.  The assessment is untimed, but usually takes about 45 minutes to complete.
