CAD Design Technicians

Job Summary

Dominion Energy Ohio is currently seeking CAD Design Technicians (formally posted as Engineering Technician- Design) for our Akron, OH office. 


Responsibilites include:

1) Perform drafting and design work and complete related paperwork and other engineering recording;

2) Conduct maintenance activities associated with the design of Company facilities;

3) Prepare manual or computer assisted drawings in accordance with Company standards;

4) Complete necessary paperwork and input data into company record systems as required;

5) Provide information and direction to others regarding company facilities;

6) Coordinate activities on Company projects utilizing engineering records, field book and mapping information, etc.;

7) Compile cost estimates for construction projects;

8) Design the installation and/or relocation of company facilities, including required material and piping configurations for pipelines, services, pressure regulating stations, etc.;

9) Perform duties within the CAD Design Technician classification for which he/she is qualified


You may work under the direction of like classifications and/or supervisor, but would often be left to your own resourcefulness to accomplish the work.  You may lead, direct and assign the work of like classifications as well as contractors.


Work environment for this position will be a normal office environment but some outside work is required which would include exposure to heat, cold, and all weather conditions.  Must be willing to work overtime and must maintain a good work performance record.  Must have a valid driver's license and may be required to use a personal vehicle for Company business (mileage is reimbursed).


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

  • High school diploma or GED with at least 1 year of AutoCAD design experience OR proof of AutoCAD class taken in pursuit of an Engineering degree, OR a certificate of completion of the Basics of AutoCAD
  • Vocational or technical training in an engineering or related (drafting/design) discipline.
    • In your resume, be sure to specify with which CAD platforms you have experience or formal training.
  • A valid state driver's license


Required Soft Skills:

  • Good computer skills
  • Good math skills
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • GIS experience
  • Utilities experience
  • MS Office experience
  • Understanding of welding, plastic fusion, inspection and test procedures
  • Awareness of State and Federal regulations as they pertain to facility design and construction.
Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: High School Diploma or equivelent.

Vocational or technical training in an engineering or related (drafting/design) discipline.

Working Conditions
Test Description

A basic Math Test and Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD) test will be administered at the pre-interview stage. Further consideration at that time will require passing this test.
