Pre-Employment Testing
Dominion Energy uses pre-employment testing for select positions to help evaluate job-related skills, abilities, and work styles that are important for success. All assessments are validated, job-related, fair, and consistently applied.
When does testing occur?
- Apply for a position
- Your qualifications are reviewed
- If selected, you receive testing instructions
- Results are reviewed along with interviews and experience
Administrative Support Testing (Online)
Used for clerical and administrative support roles. These assessments are completed online and typically take about one hour.
Tests are timed, and scores are based on both accuracy and speed.
Assessments may include
- Proofreading
- Clarifying and Coding
- Microsoft Word (simulated)
- Microsoft Excel (simulated)
- Microsoft PowerPoint (simulated)
Craft, Skilled Trades & Technical Testing (On‑site)
Dominion Energy uses the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) test battery for many craft, skilled trades, and technical positions.
These tests are administered on‑site and scheduled in advance.
Practice tests
EEI practice tests are available to help you become familiar with the format and content of the real assessment. Practice tests are for preparation only and do not guarantee success.

HireVue Virtual Job Tryout (VJT)
The Virtual Job Tryout (VJT) is a 45‑minute assessment that measures attributes important for success in select roles at Dominion Energy, including Line Worker, Customer Projects Designer, and Customer Contact Specialist.
No practice test is available for the VJT. However, the test components for each role are described below so candidates know what to expect.
Line Worker Roles
- Handle Work Challenges – Presents job‑related situations and asks how you would respond.
- Check for Errors – Tests attention to detail by determining whether numbers are a Match or an Error.
- Solve Mechanical Problems – Assesses understanding of basic mechanical principles through applied questions.
- Understand Operation Guidelines – Requires interpreting dial and gauge readings and integrating information from Operating Guidelines.
- Troubleshoot Problems – Uses visual scenarios to identify and diagnose a broken component.
- Tell Us Your Story – Explores how your background and work history have shaped you.
- Describe Your Approach – Examines your individual work style and approach to tasks.
Customer Projects Designer Roles
- Work with Others – Presents workplace scenarios and asks how you would respond.
- Work with Numbers – Involves solving math problems similar to those encountered in the role. You may want to use a calculator or scratch paper.

- Describe Your Approach – Evaluates your personal work style and approach to situations.
Customer Contact Specialist Roles
- Work with Customers – Provides examples of situations you may encounter when working directly with customers.
