Job Summary

This position is located at the Innsbrook Technical Center, in Glen Allen VA, a suburb of Richmond, VA.

 

The incumbent will design, draft, and review manual and electronic detailed structural or civil engineering drawings, such as structural steel or reinforced concrete drawings (plan, elevation, sections, details), site plans and grading plans (plan, elevation, cross sections, details), demolition drawings, layout drawings, and other complex structural/civil and construction drawings. This position acts as a midlevel designer for structural/civil detailing and drafting and may coordinate and direct the work of other structural/civil drafters and designers as applicable. Will require operating industrial and construction site visits. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • General structural/civil design support for the Power Generation generating stations
  • Preparation and review of structural or civil drawings in support of various power station engineering projects
  • Preparation and review of structural/civil drawing standards for Power Generation Engineering department
  • Develop topographical and plan and profile drawings from surveying notes/data
  • Perform site investigations as required
  • Provide construction support as required
  • Review and comment on Vendor or Architect/Engineer drawing submittals
  • Maintain structural/civil drawing records

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of relative experience desired
  • Work in a team environment as a team member
  • Thorough knowledge of structural/civil engineering design drafting principles
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, related codes, and standards
  • Knowledge of  American Concrete Institute’s ACI Detailing Manual and American Institute of Steel Construction’s Detailing for Steel Construction
  • Familiarity with surveying principles and techniques
  • Ability to plan and schedule work independently
  • Strong Microsoft Suite skills utilizing Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Strong MicroStation and AutoCAD skills
  • Bentley Descartes raster image editing skills
  • Strong math skills including geometry and trigonometry required to perform calculations as required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Well-developed and effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in ProjectWise drawing file management system (preferred)

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Associates; Disciplines: Drafting and Design, Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Drawing preferred.
