Job Summary

 

This position may be filled at the Land Agent or Senior Land Agent level depending on the applicable related knowledge, skills, experience and education of the applicant. 

 

Land Agent:  The role and responsibilities of a Land Agent include:  Negotiates and secures legal land agreements with affected landowners, whether they are private owners, corporations, or government agencies to permit the construction of natural gas distribution facilities Works with Operations, Commercial Team, Construction and Engineering to monitor Company rights of way for potential developments and encroachments and diplomatically asserts & enforces Company rights at potential encroachments.  Reviews the land needs for scheduled and proposed projects, makes appropriate notifications to landowners / land managing agencies, and, when necessary, acquires new land / right of way easements as required.  Possesses and constantly hones the interpersonal skills, technical knowledge, and capabilities to support multifaceted transmission projects and/or negotiations with landowners and land managing agencies.

 


Senior Land Agent:  This role is the highest-level position within the Land Agent developmental job progression. The Senior Land Agent must be highly capable of all the roles and responsibilities of a Land Agent (as listed above). Additionally, the Senior Land Agent must demonstrate interpersonal skills, leadership, experience, technical knowledge, and decision-making beyond the Land Agent position.

 

The Senior Land Agent must be highly proficient with the following:  Coordinate procurement of outside land services as needed, through the preparation of RFPs, analysis of proposals and awarding of contracts. Coordinate efforts of contract land agents on various projects (as applicable).  Manage project land budgets and prepare regular reports on financial progress.  Assist with leading the Land department by providing mentoring and leadership to peers and colleagues.  Possess and constantly hone the interpersonal skills, technical knowledge, capabilities to support the most complex transmission projects and/or to negotiations with the most challenging landowners and land managing agencies.  While working closely with supervision, able to help provide direction for the team by helping team member interpret and execute company goals and objectives.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

 

Land Agent:


Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years directly related experience or
Associates Degree and 5+ years of directly related experience or
High school diploma and 7+ years of directly related experience

Preferred qualifications: 5+ years directly related experience as Land Agent and practical and/or technical knowledge of Natural Gas Distribution / Transmission pipelines and facilities

 

Senior Land Agent:


Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years directly related experience or
Associates Degree and 7+ years of directly related experience or
High school diploma and 11+ years of directly related experience

Preferred qualifications: 10+ years directly related experience as Land Agent AND Practical and/or technical knowledge of Natural Gas Distribution / Transmission pipelines and facilities

 

Directly Related Experience includes: Probate, contract, and real estate laws; oil and gas exploration, title/mineral research, land management, or right of way agent experience

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Both Levels:

 

Knowledge: Practical knowledge of construction and its footprint and potential impacts

 

Skills: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication, problem-solving, time management, strong computer skills (including Microsoft Office and database querying tools), and excellent interpersonal skills

 

Abilities: Ability to complete title searches for determining oil, gas, mineral, surface and subsurface rights. Ability to speak persuasively and develop rapport internally and externally. Prepare reports, letters, memos and to maintain documentation. Ability to plan and organize and work independently. Perform calculations and land valuations. Ability to interpret maps, plats, blueprints, plans and surveys. Manage multiple projects. Ability to work with diverse teams and work independently with minimal supervision.  Ability to exercise independent judgement and decision-making in planning, organizing, and conducting work assignments.

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

MountainWest Pipeline* (formerly Dominion Energy Questar Pipeline, LLC) is an interstate natural gas pipeline company that provides transportation and underground storage services in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado.
