Job Summary

Gas System Planning & Design has an exciting Engineer I or Engineer II position available at our BHE GT&S Headquarters in Richmond, VA.   There is one position available that will be filled at either an EI or EII level commensurate on the selected candidate's skills and abilities. 

Engineer I/II position will require the candidate to be proficient in the following responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering analysis on gas pipeline systems to determine the performance of the systems, which includes making recommendations of infrastructure requirements for system expansions utilizing specialized software and models;
  • Develop preliminary cost estimates for facility recommendations;
  • Research facility drawings, maps, records, and other documentation to develop and update facility models;
  • Be competent in all conventional aspects of the subject matter, which includes increased complexity in the application of engineering skills;
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned to support BHE GT&S’s Gas System Planning & Design group. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate via resume and cover letter that they meet the required Basic Qualifications as follows:

  • Engineer I must have a minimum 0-2+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Engineer II must have a minimum 3+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Bachelor’s in engineering from an ABET- accredited or ABET - recognized Engineering program. Please refer to Education Requirements

Preferred Knowledge & Experience:

• Prior experience in planning and/or network simulation tools

• Experience with hydraulic modeling (DNVGL Synergi Gas, Gregg, etc.)

• Knowledge of gas transmission, gas storage, and/or gathering system operations

• Understanding of the terms and conditions of services offered by both BHE Eastern GT&S and BHE Cove Point

Education Requirements

Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
