Job Summary

This posting is for a LNG Technician or Sr. LNG Technician (Electrical) to be filled at Cove Point LNG Plant in Lusby, MD.

 

The Electrical and Controls LNG Technician (Electrical) reports directly to the Electrical and Controls Supervisor and is a member of multi-disciplined work force responsible for the SAFE and Reliable Operation and Maintenance of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import/export and re-gasification terminal, including LNG process systems, infrastructure, controls, emergency response, Electrical and Emergency Power Generation, Turbine and Auxiliary Control Support Systems, and Distributed Control System (DCS). Dedication and sensitivity to safety issues and compliance with policies and procedures is essential for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the terminal.

 

The successful candidate must be willing to work in an industrial environment, with the bulk of their time spent performing field work including the inspection, testing, service, repair, configuration, calibration, and installation of medium and low-voltage class generators, transformers, switchgear, Motor-Control Centers (MCC), panelboards, AC Inverters, DC Chargers and Batteries, Motors, heaters, HVAC and related components.

 

The Electrical LNG Technician (Electrical) works on complex and detailed systems and analyzes, troubleshoots and repairs electrical generation, distribution, protection and control systems, and replaces component parts as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

 

LNG Tech (Electrical)

 

  • Three (3) years’ experience in an industrial setting working in an electrical field where hands on craft experience is gained.
  • Experience in power generation, LNG production/processing or petrochemical industries considered a plus.
  • Any formal craft training is a plus.

 

Sr. LNG Tech (Electrical)

 

  • Five (5) years’ experience in an industrial setting working in an electrical field where hands on craft experience is gained and a journeyman level was achieved.
  • Experience in power generation, LNG production/processing or petrochemical industries considered a plus.
  • Completion of a formal craft training program is a plus.
  • Knowledge of testing methods and testing equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting power and controls circuits and equipment is required.
  • In depth knowledge of protective relays and protective schemes is a plus.


Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for Both Positions:

  • Basic understanding of the Plant Electrical Power Generation and Distribution system, and adheres to safety protocols
  • Basic understanding of all plant utilities and sub-systems, including air, water, power generation, sanitation and nitrogen
  • Applied knowledge of electrical and controls such as medium and low-voltage generators, motors, switchgear, motor control centers, Variable Speed Drives (VFD) , circuit breakers, protective and network relaying, fuses, cabling, power, current instrument and transformers, Lighting, HVAC, AC Inverters and DC Chargers, batteries Control Systems etc.
  • Familiar with the requirements of NFPA 70 - National Electric Code, NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace and applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations etc.
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety requirements for working in proximity of rotating machinery and equipment capable of severe electrical shock, arc-flash or hazardous atmospheres
  • Previous work experience demonstrating technical knowledge of industrial electrical systems
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations
  • Ability to perform field equipment calibrations
  • Ability to provide guidance and/or training to less experienced Electrical Technicians and Operators
  • Basic computer skills with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and SAP applications
  • Analytical and deductive reasoning skills, oral and written communication skills, technical writing skills, electrical skills, and mathematical skills
  • Capability to troubleshoot and solve equipment or process problems
  • Capability to conduct site inspections or walk downs, including working at heights
  • Capability to maintain drawings and configuration control of documentation as related to the industrial electrical system

Education Requirements

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: High School Graduate , Trade School Graduate , Associate Required: GED , Disciplines: Preferred: Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electrical Power Technoloy, Electrical, Electrical Construction

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status.

 

Must possess a valid drivers license and operate a company vehicle.
