Job Summary

BHE GT&S is seeking a Compression Services - Engineering Technical Specialist  I, II  or III that can sit at either Oakford Compressor Station, in Delmont, PA or Pleasant Valley Station, Centreville, VA.  As our Engineering Technical Specialist you will you provide onsite technical support to field operations to ensure, reliable, safe, and compliant operations of  reciprocating engines and compressors within Eastern Gas Transmission & Storage .


BHE GT&S is an interstate natural gas transmission and storage company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, that became a standalone subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy in November 2020. We operate more than 5,560 miles of gas transmission line and 756 Bcf of underground storage in the eastern U.S., along with gathering, processing and field services businesses. We operate in 12 states. BHE GT&S is an industry leader in liquefied natural gas solutions, through initiatives such as Pivotal LNG and our 25% operating stake in the Cove Point LNG facility in Lusby, Maryland.  The energy we deliver supports major distribution utilities, power plants and manufacturing. Our premier storage operations provide dependable, flexible support for direct customers and neighboring pipelines. At our multiple interconnects – especially the liquid South Point hub – BHE GT&S services support both producers and consumers, ensuring competitive access to abundant energy.


Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provide engineering support to Field Operations to promote quality and efficient Compression operations
  2. Understand and interpret Compressor performance curves and determine if a more efficient practice is available.
  3. Provide technical support to technicians, specialists, engine mechanics, and contractors to ensure proper assembly and maintenance policies and procedures are being adhered to during equipment installation and maintenance processes
  4. Support system hardware and software for real time horse power, control and communication systems.
  5. Provide technical support to operations on reciprocating gas engines and compressors during maintenance activities.
  6. Develop, standardize, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, work procedures, installation procedures, and training manuals.
  7. Develop and conduct training classes as required
  8. Support project teams, operations and other engineering groups on the development, review and interpretation of Pulsation and vibration studies as they pertain to Compressor Stations.
  9. Provide support in the engineering, construction, installation, startup and commissioning of Natural Gas and Electric driven Reciprocating engines and compressors.
  10. Manage multiple issues, projects, and initiatives, within area of responsibility.
  11. Monitor and maintain a capital budget and provide support to Engineering and Field Operations in the completion of annual projects
  12. Represent company as a member of external technical committees and organizations, including involvement as company representative at industry meetings and conferences (GMRC, PRCI) as requested by leadership.


There is one position available that will be filled at either the Engineering Technical Specialist  I, II  or III level commensurate with the selected candidate's skills and abilities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences required for entry into this job include the following:

Engineering Technical Specialist I

  • Minimum 0-2 years of engineering experience or natural gas experience.


Engineering Technical Specialist II

  • Minimum 3+ years of engineering experience or natural gas experience.


Engineering Technical Specialist III

  • Minimum 5+ years of engineering experience or natural gas experience.


Both Levels:

  1. Knowledge of electronic and pneumatic engineering principles, theory, and equipment
  2. Ability to monitor changes in technology with skill in developing, testing and recommending new ideas and strategies for the utilization of those changes
  3. Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering schematics, drawings, and technical manuals
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively operate a personal computer and common software applications.
  5. Demonstrated ability to prepare technical reports
  6. Ability to work independently, communicates effectively, and establishes rapport
  7. Ability to define problems collects accurate data, draw valid conclusions, and develop solutions

Education Requirements

Education Level:


Bachelor degree


In order to be a titled Engineering Technical Specialist, you must meet one of the following criteria:

- 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or

- 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering or other technical related discipline; or

- 4-year non-technical degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or

- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree
