Job Summary

BHE GT&S  is an interstate natural gas transmission and storage company headquartered in Richmond, VA with operations in 10 states.  As a standalone subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, the energy we provide supports a number of large customers, including major utilities, power plants, and other countries. Our goal is safe and reliable energy production, delivery, and storage. 

 

Join our team as a Construction Contracts Consultant!  This is a key role for putting our core principles into action by coordinating and collaborating with partners to ensure projects are implemented on time and on budget for natural gas facilities and pipelines. 

 

This position can report from either the Bridgeport, WV or Richmond, VA offices based on the successful candidate's home location.  Flexible work arrangements, including remote, hybrid, or compressed schedules may be available, but are not guaranteed.  Relocation assistance available if eligible. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. 

Some of your daily tasks will include: 

  • managing construction contracts for large gas infrastructure construction projects including facilities and pipeline projects.
  • monitoring, analyzing, and preparing strategic alternatives. 
  • maintaining records. 
  • participating in meetings with teams and contractors. 
  • providing expert knowledge of complex contracts to manage risk, cost, and contract compliance during construction.
  • communicating with the internal Project Team members and advising them throughout contract development, negotiations, change orders, warranty claims, and disputes. 
  • developing standard operating procedures and protocols.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • At least 10 years experience in supply chain management and/or contract life-cycle management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and work experience in construction contract development, execution, and contract life-cycle management.
  • Expert knowledge of construction contract terminology and contracting types.
  • In depth experience in cost analysis techniques.
  • Ability to recognize and negotiate potential risks and explain how contract changes may impact the business.
  • Maintain official project records, including contractual documents and correspondence with suppliers.
  • Develop and process contract sign-off packages, managing the approval process for new agreements and associated change orders.
  • Strong leadership skills, effective oral and written presentation skills.
  • Customer focused and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Advises management of contractual rights and obligations and provides interpretation of terms and conditions.
  • Excellent business, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Skilled in relationship management and able to work effectively with all levels of management both internal and external to the organization,
  • Excellent business judgment and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Represents various large capital construction projects and advises team members in bid evaluations, negotiations, contract structure, change orders and problem resolution.
  • Extensive knowledge of Excel, MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint.
  • Preferred experience in SAP or Oracle
  • Preferred experience with Microsoft Team
  • Preferred experience with SharePoint

Education Requirements

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor , Disciplines: Preferred: Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or Law. Other Education: Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or Law.
